Mahasthangarh is one of the historical place  in Bangladesh. The Mahasthangarh is situated in Bogra District. It is located 11 kilometers North from the Bogra town.

Basically , Mahasthan means a place that has excellent sanctity And the garh means fort. It is also mentioned  in an anonymous text Karatoya Mahatmya. Mahasthaqngarh is one of the earliest urban area. The Mahasthangarh contains the remains of  an ancient city which was called Pundranagar or Pundravardhanapura .  Several personalities contributed to the discovery and identification of the ruins at Mahasthangarh. Francis Buchanan Hamulton was the first to locate and visit Mahasthangarh in 1808. Then , After a long time Alexander Cunningham was
the first to identify the place as the capital of Pundranagar in 1879.

Mahanthangarh the ancient capital of Pundranagar is located 11 KM North from the Bogra Town on the Bogra-Rangpur with a feeder road.

There are many attractive Ensign at Mahasthangarh. One of them is Mahasthangarh Archaeological Museum.

Mahasthangarh Archaeological Museum was Established in 1967 in the adjacent areas on the bank of the river Karatoya and in the hills of Mahasthangarh. The importance of the history and heritage of Mahasthangarh is taken into account by the archaeological museum. After a few years , The Ministry of Culture of Bangladesh took the initiative to look after The Museum.

MAZAR SHATIF:

According to many historians And local people, it is the Sharine of Hazrat Shah Sultan Mahmud Balkhi (R:). The Mazar Sharif is situated somewhat west of the Mahasthan Bus Stand. Shah Sultan Balkhi (R:) was a Islamic preacher of 14th century. He is said to be in a Fish - Shaped Boat with his followers, in the varendra land. His name comes after that the Mahisawar And he was called as Shah Sultan Balkhi also, beacuse  of being son of the king of the kingdom Balakh.
